Financial Plugins

On February 24, 2026, Anthropic announced the launch of financial plugins for Claude, implemented via the MCP protocol. This marks the first mass entry of an AI assistant into the world of professional financial data.

Confirmed plugins:

  1. FactSet — fundamental data, analyst estimates, financial statements
  2. MSCI — ESG ratings, index data, factor analytics
  3. S&P Global (Capital IQ Pro) — credit ratings, industry analytics, macro data
  4. LSEG — market data, news, corporate events

What You Can Do

Fundamental Analysis

You can now ask Claude:

“Compare P/E, P/B, and ROE for Apple, Microsoft, and Google over the last 5 years”

And get an answer with real data from FactSet, not “hallucinations.”

ESG Screening

“Show the top 10 S&P 500 companies with the best MSCI ESG rating and a dividend yield above 2%”

The MSCI plugin provides ESG ratings, carbon footprint data, and corporate governance information.

Credit Analysis

“Which companies in the commercial real estate sector have a rating below BBB and high debt load?”

S&P Global data enables credit analysis without access to a Bloomberg terminal.

Pricing

The plugins operate on a pay-per-query model. Cost depends on query complexity and the volume of returned data. For comparison, a Bloomberg terminal subscription costs around $25,000 per year.

Who Is It For

Claude’s financial plugins are aimed at:

  • Analysts — quick data access via natural language
  • Portfolio managers — screening and comparative analysis
  • Fintech startups — integrating professional data into their products
  • Individual investors — access to data that used to cost tens of thousands of dollars

Limitations

Important to keep in mind:

  • Data is updated with a delay (not real-time)
  • Some detailed reports are unavailable through plugins
  • Claude may misinterpret data — always verify the numbers
  • Plugin availability depends on region (currently US and EU only)

Nevertheless, this is a significant step toward democratizing financial data.
